As the semester (as well as the new edition of the crypto course) starts, it’s time to liven up this place a bit. So here’s an essay (under preparation, mind you) based on the introductory lecture for the course. It’s titled “The Edifice of Cryptography: An Artist’s Impression.”
The artist’s impression we present is an attempt to bring out the various aspects of the field. Like all such perspectives, this by no means is the only way to comprehend the field; nevertheless, we hope such a perspective is useful in conveying the spirit of the field to students and non-specialists.
